The Institute seeks out those individuals, organizations, and institutions that are interested in collaboration, shared learning, and the identification and testing of innovation. The database is searchable by region, crop type, and irrigation technique to help farmers find context-appropriate solutions.

Even modest changes in temperature and precipitation patterns, the length of growing seasons, or the frequency of extreme events will have large consequences for many farmers.

In addition, the Institute is working on how to help farmers understand and plan for climate impacts at the local level.

With continuing concentration trends in animal agriculture, concerns about the potential for impairment of water resources have increased. Agriculture is not only the world's largest water user in terms of volume, it is also a relatively low-value, low-efficiency and highly subsidized water user.

These facts are forcing governments and donors to rethink the economic, social and environmental implications of large publicly funded and operated irrigation projects. Water and agriculture involve two key interrelated issues: Water quality is a measure of the suitability of water for a particular use based on selected physical, chemical, or biological characteristics.
